"brief": "A sun-baked terraced hillside steps across the canvas in bands of ochre and umber, each terrace ruled with dark furrows. A low sun drifts slowly from left to right, and as it moves the terraces shift from warm gold to dusk red while thin grain stalks sway gently in every furrow. A narrow irrigation channel winds down through the terraces, its water glinting as it flows. Clicking anywhere on a terrace sows a seed there: a green shoot pushes up out of the furrow and grows into a full stalk over a few seconds, so the crop thickens wherever the viewer plants.",

"statement": "A hillside cut into seven terraces, the oldest way people made a slope grow food, drawn as bands of ochre and umber whose colour is borrowed from a low sun crossing the sky. The sun sets the mood of the whole field: gold at the start of its arc, a dusky red by the end, and the terraces, the standing grain and the water in the channel all take their tint from it. The grain is hundreds of single swaying lines, one per stalk, and the irrigation channel winds down the steps with points of light running along it so the water is seen to move. A click is the viewer's hand in the work: it tills a dark patch of soil and sows a cluster of shoots that push up green, unfold two leaves, and ripen to the colour of the surrounding crop over a few seconds, so the field thickens wherever someone has planted.",
